So, Where's the Chevy Volt? Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac plans to unveil the much anticipated car!

For months, loyal Chevy customers waited patiently for the arrival of the Chevrolet Volt that was originally intended to be on market by the end of 2010.

Unfortunately, disappointing news was delivered that the wait was extended for many Chevy dealerships. Recently, the 2011 Volt was named the 2011 North American Car of the Year, being the seventh award for the trendy vehicle, by 49 automotive journalists from Canada and the U.S. Being the third time for Chevrolet to receive this award and the fourth time for General Motors.

Only a few states have the Volt available for purchase; now, there are promises of the Chevy Volt’s out break across the nation by the end of 2011. During the second quarter of the year, customers nationwide will be able to order their own Volt.

Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac is counting down the days till the arrival of the popular vehicle! We are preparing for the 2011 Chevy Volt by September of 2011. With prestigious industrial awards already named for the vehicle, customers inquiries and pre-orders are coming in by the dozen.

Our excitement continues to grow too! With the business booming, the Chevrolet Volt helps bring in many new Chevy customers to Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac’s open doors. The new electric vehicle offers a total driving range of up to 379 miles, based on EPA estimates. For the first 40 miles of driving time, the Volt can drive tailpipe-emissions-free using a full charge of electricity. When the 16-kWh lithium-ion battery begins to run low, a gas-powered engine starts to operate to extend the driving range another 344 miles on a full tank.

Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac will be the first ones to let the Charlotte area to know of the arrival of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt. Stay tuned because hopefully within a few short months, you will be able to get your very own Volt!

Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac will be joining the Volt festivities with a public unveiling of this new much anticipated vehicle this September. Customers will be given a detailed walk around of the vehicle and opportunities to test drive the future in green transportation. More information to come! Keep checking for more information about this event!

Chevrolet Harnesses Sun to Power Volts and Dealerships - Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac

Capacity to charge a dozen Volts daily; excess energy to supplement dealer’s use Two dozen U.S. dealerships pledge to install solar-powered charging stations.

Chevrolet is harnessing the power of the sun to install solar-powered electric charging stations for its Volts at dealerships in North America. The Green Zone initiative will generate electricity equivalent to 12 full vehicle charges per day and excess electricity created will help supplement the dealership’s power needs.

“The Chevrolet Green Zone will provide our U.S. dealers with added flexibility when it comes to charging their vehicles, while also reinforcing GM’s commitment to renewable energy projects,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Chevrolet Marketing and Strategy.

American Chevrolet in Modesto, Calif., and Al Serra Auto Plaza in Grand Blanc, Mich., are the first U.S. dealerships to complete their solar charging capability by installing Green Zones on their property.

“The question isn’t whether to install a solar canopy, it’s where and how many,” said Joe Serra, president of Serra Automotive. “It’s a win for us because the electricity generated will help reduce operating costs, and it’s a win for the environment since solar power helps reduce our carbon footprint.”

Each canopy generates enough electricity for up to 4,500 charges per vehicle annually. The proof of concept for the Green Zone project is housed at the Detroit Hamtramck assembly plant, manufacturing home of the Volt.

“The beauty of this program is that there is no capital cost required from the dealership,” said Dave Halvorson, president of American Chevrolet in Modesto. “Not only do we generate the solar energy to increase our reliance on renewable electricity, but the Green Zone is a billboard of our commitment to the environment.”

The Chevy Green Zone Initiative is part of GM Ventures’ recent announcement to invest $7.5 million inSunlogics, a solar panel manufacturing and development company that will supply the panels and install the dealer charging stations. Both American Chevrolet and Al Serra Chevrolet partnered with Sunlogics for installation of their Green Zones.
“Just one of these canopies provides enough renewable energy to power two to three homes per year, or more than 25 percent of a dealership’s energy consumption,” said Perry. “Collectively, that will be a lot of power we are putting back into the grid.”

As part of the GM Ventures investment announcement in Sunlogics, General Motors committed to double its solar output globally – from 30 megawatts to 60 megawatts by 2015. The company derives 1.4 percent of its U.S. energy consumption from renewable resources.

GM is the leading user of renewable energy in automotive manufacturing. It has three of the largest automotive rooftop solar power installations in the United States, and the world’s largest rooftop solar installation at its car assembly plant in Zaragoza, Spain. Additionally, GM has started construction on a new solar field at its Detroit-Hamtramck facility and completed construction on a solar array on top of its Baltimore Operations facility.

Chevrolet Volt Faces Production Shortages

As the much anticipated Chevy Volt begins to leave the assembly lines, to keep the pace against the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet must up the ante on producing their newest green vehicle.

General Motors plans to boost output of its Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric sedan to 5,000 a month to satisfy demand and overtake Nissan, which has its all-electric Leaf, Bloomberg News reports.

Nissan has sold 3,875 Leafs (Leaves?) to GM's 2,745 Volts. Not only is the Nissan about $7,000 or more cheaper, but Nissan has been making more -- despite the Japanese earthquake in March.

Bloomberg says:

At today's production levels, both vehicles are in short supply and the automakers have thousands of consumers on waiting lists. It's still unknown whether customers ultimately prefer a pure electric car like the Leaf or a plug-in hybrid like the Volt that can travel longer distances, and how many people are willing to pay for the gas-saving technology.

"This is very much about supply constraints as opposed to a sales race," Rebecca Lindland, an analyst with IHS Automotive, a research firm based in Lexington, Mass. "Next year will really show true demand for these kinds of cars and which one wins."

GM will quickly expand output as it pushes toward a goal of selling 10,000 Volts in the USA this year, Posawatz said.

GM plans to assemble 60,000 next year at its Detroit-Hamtramck plant, with 45,000 of them earmarked for U.S. buyers.

"It's fair to say GM underestimated demand for the Volt," he said. "By January, the capacity we need will be online."

GM restarted Detroit-Hamtramck this month after shutting it down in June. The factory was retooled to also produce the Chevrolet Malibu sedan early next year. U.S. sales of the sedan, also made in Fairfax, Kan., rose 13% in the first half to 122,783.

Nissan builds the Leaf in Oppama, Japan, and has annual capacity to make 50,000 of the car next year. The company has sold 9,687 of them globally through the first week of July, about 4,000 of them in the USA, said Brian Brockman, a spokesman. The Yokohama-based company expects monthly U.S. Leaf deliveries to be at about the same rate as in June, when dealers sold 1,708, he said.

Buyers everywhere feel pressured at car dealerships. Hendrick Chevy Cadillac breaks this trend.

Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac has taken an active role to put the power of car shopping and buying truly in the customers’ hands. A new QR browsing and coding system compatible with smartphones has been implemented to help customers shop.

The car dealership is the quintessential sales environment. Therefore, it is not surprising to see this industry develop a logical and contextual use for QR codes and mobile optimization. Over the past few years, the auto industry has been changing; consumers are clutching their cash tight to their chests, causing dealerships to increase the level of service on all fronts. The addition of the QR code to the sales sticker is a logical progression.

What is a QR Code?

Distributing this technology to car Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac is ScanMyCode.com, a QR Code marketing company. QR stands for quick response. This is aptly termed, as the QR code marketing phenomenon is based in the instantaneous communication of information. The idea is simple: take a square, encoded image that can be read by any mobile phone QR code scanner app (which are readily available to consumers for free), and put the “image-into-information” barcode technology used historically by retailers into the hands of the masses. Only QR codes are much more robust than their traditional barcode grandparents.

Once a QR code is scanned by a mobile phone, the user is immediately linked to a virtually limitless list of content possibilities – it might be a menu, a coupon, an event calendar, a particular real estate property, or just about anything on the internet. Since the QR code scanner operates via a mobile phone, the communication might also be as simple as a text-message, a click-to-call phone number, or an email address link. Not only that, but these codes can be created simply and cost-effectively; and, importantly, responses to them can be easily measured. As such, the QR codes of today have the potential to put whatever information one wants to highlight into the hands of their target audience. Instantaneously.

How are we Implementing QR Codes?

Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac has tagged every vehicle in their inventory, both new and used, with a QR code sticker on the windshield. Anyone walking throughout the inventory lot has the instant ability to pull up relevant information about any vehicle, at any time. The customer now has instant, mobile access to multiple vehicle photos, lists of accessories, features and specifications, pricing information, a call button and a special manager’s coupon as a money-saving incentive. The QR codes become valuable sales tools that every dealership can quickly implement at a cost per vehicle that is negligible.

Does Your Car Seat Feel like Rocks on Your Bottom? Pressure points may be a problem!

Malibu’s Top Seats Came From Studying Lots of Bottoms. Engineers analyze more than 4,600 pressure points to ensure maximum seat comfort.

Chevrolet Malibu seat performance engineers Daniel Cohen and Cheryl Hajciar know more about keeping hindquarters happy than a good masseuse.

Cohen and Hajciar are tasked with ensuring that customers of all shapes and sizes get maximum comfort when sitting in the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. They use high-tech tools and real-world ride evaluations to deliver the best-possible seat comfort for Malibu customers around the world.

The 2013 Malibu seats were designed with input from engineers and designers around the world. The European team designed the seat and engineers from North America and Asia enhanced them to match consumer comfort requirements in their respective regions.

Cohen works in the lab at General Motors’ seat comfort testing facility in Milford, Mich. He used state-of-the-art digital pressure-mapping technology to scan the rear-end impressions of people of all shapes and sizes.

The system takes a snapshot of a person’s back and rear-end pressure distribution over the seat surface, creating a map with more than 4,600 data points. The information is transferred to a laptop computer that generates graphics illustrating how occupants sit in the seat statically or while driving.

Complementing seat-pressure mapping, Cohen also uses a rear-end test machine that simulates the effects of seat force and deflection through various sized buttock-shaped plates. They are made of aluminum and can weigh up to 250 pounds.

“This test allows us to understand how far a customer will compress into the seat to ensure the selected seat foam and other materials can support the pressure,” said Cohen. “We want to find the sweet spot of seat comfort: a seat that is neither too firm nor too soft, but just right.”

For more information about the 2011 and 2012 Chevrolet Malibu visit http://www.hendrickchevy.com

While Cohen’s job is in a laboratory, Hajciar works on the road. She coordinatesMalibu seat ride evaluations with several volunteers, spending hundreds of hours logging thousands of miles to ensure she gets sufficient feedback on seat prototypes.
“Our seat evaluators often ride long distances to achieve our mission of creating the most-comfortable seat possible,” said Hajciar. “We are being meticulous about the details so that when customers get behind the wheel of a 2013 Malibu, they’ll immediately feel the difference.”

The diesel will bolster the already fuel-efficient Cruze lineup. Cruze Eco with a standard six-speed manual transmission, is the most fuel-efficient gas-powered/non-hybrid vehicle in America, with an EPA-rated 42 mpg on the highway.

Chevrolet Volt Problems Foreseen?

What to do with electric batterys at the end of their life? Problem is being worked, while folks eagerly await the release of the Chevrolet Volt at Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac in Monroe!

Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac is excited to announce the debut of the new 2011 Chevy Volt at its Monroe dealership around September 2011.

Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac in Monroe has one of largest selections of new and pre-owned Chevrolet vehicles in North Carolina and looks forward to adding the Volt to its inventory later this year. View Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac's inventory and Volt information at http://www.hendrickchevy.com
The 2011 Chevrolet Volt, a revolutionary four-door, four-seat hybrid vehicle, is powered by a lithium-ion battery and a flex-fuel powered four-cylinder generator. The Green Chevrolet Volt optimizes the way it drives depending on variables such as weather, the electrical features in use and consumer driving style. The Volt can travel up to 40 miles on a full charge — completely free of gas and emissions, yet has the merits of instant torque and horsepower from the electric motors. Step on the gas and feel Camaro-like torque while emitting no emissions. For more information visit http://www.hendrickchevy.com

With the exciting launch of the Chevrolet Volt, Electric and electrified vehicles are all the current rage among automakers. With more electric vehicles being purchased, researchers are hard at work figuring out what to do with all those electric batteries once their automotive life reaches the end of the line.
According to General Motors and power productivity ace, ABB Group, Chevrolet Volt battery systems will still have a lot of juice – up to 70 percent – after they have reached the end of their vehicle life. In fact, GM predicts 33 used Volt batteries will have the ability to provide enough power to 50 households for several hours during a power outage.
GM and ABB together have come up with an energy storage system, consisting of a grid-tied power inverter that could be used to charge and discharge the Volt battery pack. The grid would store electricity and come on-line during outages or in times of peak demand, ultimately saving customers and utilities money. The prototype is built for 25-kilowatt/50-kWh applications, which equals the average energy use of about five homes.
While GM and ABB continue developing the prototype, Pablo Valenica, senior manager for Battery Lifecycle Management, will oversee his team while they work on battery systems capable of use beyond their automotive life in all future GM cars.
