Sugar Plum Bake-Off benefits Hometown Heroes

Mark your calendars for December 23, 2009 for the Hometown Heroes Annual Bake Sale. This is the 18th annual event and it will be held at Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac in Monroe. You may know it at the Sugar Plum Cook-Off. In addition, the Mighty 1190 WIXE radio will be on-location during the event.


To participate in the cook-off, bring your entry(s) to Hendrick Chevrolet Cadillac in Monroe on Monday, December 22 or before 9:00 AM on Tuesday, December 23, 2009. Those entering the Sugar Plum Cook-Off will be entered a cash prize drawing for each item entered into the Cook Off.


The judging will begin around 10:00 AM and the auction will begin after the judging is complete. The grand prize winner receives a really nice PLASMA BIG-SCREEN TV from Queen City TV & Appliance and $100 IN CASH! Plus, there will prizes for the top 10 runners-up.


This is your chance to get homemade baked goods to make sure your holiday gatherings are sweet. The sweet auction begins after winners are announced. More importantly, the proceeds from your purchase go to support the efforts of Hometown Heroes.


About Hometown Heroes


Hometown Heroes is a local non-profit with a mission to help children who suffer from terminal illnesses or debilitating injuries as a result of a tragic accident. Ask any volunteer and they will tell you: “It’s all about the kids…” Here’s a short overview of the services provided by Hometown Heroes:



  • Services vary contingent upon need; however, every child hero has a dedicated sponsor to ensure their needs are met.

  • Medical and household financial assistance, where needed.

  • Hospital and home visits to offer moral support.

  • Medical equipment such as wheel chairs, as prescribed.

  • Whatever it takes to make life a little easier during difficult times.
